A Smiling Day (Poem)

A Smiling Day

It was a good enough
Day
Starting at 5 a.m.
With morning
Kisses
And then
Eating bacon and eggs
Cooked by the best chef
Evah!
Wishing my daughter
A happy birthday
As she came down the stairs
Looking cute and disheveled
As a nineteen-year-old could be
Counting my blessings
As storm clouds dissipated
For me, and yet,
Praying for those
Who are losing it all
But
Buoyed again
By that healthy
Nineteen-year-old
As we ate at Quaker Steak and Lube
And a son who tomorrow
Will be starting his freshman year
Of college
As a senior in high school
And now
Sweet desserts
Oreo sponges floating in milk
And a photo in Explore.
Yes, it was
A good enough day. :o)
