Girls Scare You (Poem)

Girls Scare You

In Glenhaven Elementary
The library had biographies
Women who made a difference
I read Helen Keller,
Clara Barton
Eleanor Roosevelt.

Then there was some blah blah blah
About girls wearing dresses, not pants.
Amelia Earhart;
She wore pants.

All the while
Brainwashing continued
Narrowing of views
Pushed into ruched submission
Sitting pretty.

When Madonna
Came around
Very much unlike a virgin
I bet that freaked you out
With her cone boobs
Demanding to be noticed.

Then the message:
Women’s lib was a no-no,
But Playboy was okay.

Damn that elementary school library
For putting ideas in my head.
