Snap To It (Poem)

Snap To It

I see these things
Everywhere
Documenting life,
Lives,
Memories
Nature’s beauty
And the like

I too
Have taken photos
Through my eyes
Cataloged
In my mind
But sometimes
They are unveiled
And paraded about
Not because I like them
But pixilated and loomed
For others to see.

Earthly Aesthetics (Poem)

Earthly Aesthetics

She wanted
To beguile him with camouflage
Gray on gray
Subliminal cairns
Marking the trail
To her heart
So theirs would be
A geological evolution
Erupting and transforming
The landscape of love.

A Smiling Day (Poem)

A Smiling Day

It was a good enough
Day
Starting at 5 a.m.
With morning
Kisses
And then
Eating bacon and eggs
Cooked by the best chef
Evah!
Wishing my daughter
A happy birthday
As she came down the stairs
Looking cute and disheveled
As a nineteen-year-old could be
Counting my blessings
As storm clouds dissipated
For me, and yet,
Praying for those
Who are losing it all
But
Buoyed again
By that healthy
Nineteen-year-old
As we ate at Quaker Steak and Lube
And a son who tomorrow
Will be starting his freshman year
Of college
As a senior in high school
And now
Sweet desserts
Oreo sponges floating in milk
And a photo in Explore.
Yes, it was
A good enough day. :o)

Catching My Drift (Poem)

Catching My Drift

Lying parallel
We dream across
Pillow-soft wavelengths
Passing shared surrealism
Back and forth
And climaxing
In the rhythmic poetry
Of inspiratory and expiratory
Then softly waking
To the tangible truths
Of our creation

School's In (Poem)

School’s In

Horizons vast
This journey is yours
Each plateau
A mile marker
Celebrated
With shouted hoorays.

Open-armed
And welcoming more
Forever climbing.

Step-stone Bridge (Poem)

Step-stone Bridge

Granite sentinels
Pose as stepping stones
Markers
Posted as reminders
Toppled igneous cairns
Only a jump away.

The Fastest Way (Poem)

The Fastest Way

Following you
I used to
Longingly watch your movements,
Proclaiming
To the up-and-down motion
Of the hitch in your gitalong
That one day
I would fllirtaceously trace
The edges
Of your back pockets
And getting from A to B
Wouldn’t seem so far away

Pale Bouquets (Poem)

Pale Bouquets

Supplication to thee blue moon
For your mystique
Creates woodland ghosts
Pale bouquets gathered
To soothe the hobgoblins

In the Wilds (Poem)

In the Wilds

I may seem
Aloof
At times
In a quagmire, but
These are the places I go to
When you see me run aground
In an apparent lack
Of concentration

I use both sides of my brain
All the while
Sliding sideways
Tilting
Relaxing
Listening to solitude
Venturing unknowns
Floating
In nature’s pool
In the wilds.

Acadia (Poem)

Acadia

Waking and wandering and
jackets drenched with sea-salt drizzle
we climbed
pink granite mountaintops
finding the first light of day
coupled with rushes of breezes
whispering our secret words
 instead of shouting them
- exhilarating

Scattered with blueberry bushes
low – we tasted your earthiness
and the abundance of your shores
potted and boiled – red
gliding on a fork through butter
- ambrosial.

Words repressed
views too sacred for utterance
on lake shores
drifting with  morning mists
these scattered fragments
- I’ll remember.

Cirque de Soiree (Poem)

Cirque de Soiree

Collecting natural Venn
Our vision interlinked
Like those before
Kaleidoscoping volition
With simple complexities
Algorithmically come-hither
Scrimmaging for surface tension

Oceanic (Poem)

Oceanic

Like waves
She rumbled through grasses
Riding the currents
With her shutter
Always searching
For rushes that fit

Illuminate Me (poem)

Illuminate Me

Waiting-

I dreamt of us
synchronizing our light
filtering through
these curtains
When that first night together
we matched touches
as fallen veils
lips no longer unobscured
by hush-hush words

Museum Quality Glass (Poem)

Museum Quality Glass

Dark corners are best
Only observed
Collecting dust and stuff
like relics in museums

I saw the Hope Diamond
Behind glass
Yet its glistening brilliance
Failed me
Unlike a discovery
In a back roads
shack. A dirty window cracked
A piece that has stories
And hallowed enough
To be photographed and left
untouched.

Alliterative Alignment (Poem)

Alliterative Alignment

All aspects
Assembled
Assigned repose
As pieces in perfect puzzle
Awaiting abutment

Epitaph (Poem)

Epitaph

Exploring houses
Glimpsing in closets
I see wispy shrouds
Left behind by reclusive
Web weavers
And sifted cinders
Surrendering grayness
In stone hearths

Exploring forests
Scattered remains
Murmur a dirge
From last summer
Their lacy skeletal leaves
Attesting to the fragile collision
Of life
And touch

Seventeen Times Two Plus Thirteen (Poem)

Seventeen Times Two Plus Thirteen

Thinking back
On these moments
I thought I knew
It all

Life passes
As if a dream
Being forty-seven
Still climbing this wall

Gingerly, I Go (Poem)

Gingerly, I Go

This is the part
Where I’m left out
Stopped by signs
Unintended, but real

To boldly go
Or remain
In stays
Straight-laced
And enslaved?

Insignia (Poem)

Insignia

Symbolic disclosures
Illustrating intention
Exacting wealth
Behind crossed swords
In treasure chests
Waiting to be discovered
And guarded.

Little Runaway (Poem)

Little Runaway

These dirty streets
No place
For proper parallels
Of purple and lavender
To be ran away from
And discarded
Like an unoccupied soul

Girls Scare You (Poem)

Girls Scare You

In Glenhaven Elementary
The library had biographies
Women who made a difference
I read Helen Keller,
Clara Barton
Eleanor Roosevelt.

Then there was some blah blah blah
About girls wearing dresses, not pants.
Amelia Earhart;
She wore pants.

All the while
Brainwashing continued
Narrowing of views
Pushed into ruched submission
Sitting pretty.

When Madonna
Came around
Very much unlike a virgin
I bet that freaked you out
With her cone boobs
Demanding to be noticed.

Then the message:
Women’s lib was a no-no,
But Playboy was okay.

Damn that elementary school library
For putting ideas in my head.

Clothesline Photography (Poem)

Clothesline Photography

Scrolling through these pages
I see many black and whites
And wonder if it should be Polaroids
Hanging to dry on an outside line
Instead of yesteryear Instamatics

Whatever the cliché case
Give me digital megapixels hung
With rainbow plastic pins.
