You'll Find Me in the Garden (poem)

You’ll Find Me In the Garden

You’ll find me in the garden
Tending my own flowers
Removing the weeds
So they’re not smothered away.
Filling the watering can
Time and time again
Providing nourishment
From tiny seed to blossoming flower.
Happy for the sunshine
Protective in the deluge
And eventually acknowledging what remains
Because that’s what gardeners do.

Bouquet (poem)

Bouquet

These kinetic petals
Finding eloquent pause
And slight affections
Sliding softly
Onto the tabletop
To sleep deeply
Withered and melancholic
And brushed away

Because I Can Now (poem)

Because I Can Now

She will never know
My highs and lows
I’m going there again
Because I can now
Reaching up
And reaching over again

Never leaving it alone
Unrighteous dominion in my past
So I’ll lift a glass again
And savor all the flavors
Because I can now

Never leaving it alone
I’ll pull books from shelves making piles and heaps
So I reestablish lines
Read them when I’m able
Because I can now

She will never know
My highs and lows
I’m going there again
Because I can now
Reaching up
And reaching over again
Never leaving it alone
Because I can now

Chronicles (poem)

Chronicles

How far can you go back
Making them believe
Offering proof
Making lists in dark places
Where your soul resides
Until the light illuminates?

Flashbacks (poem)

Flashbacks

In outtakes, hiding in the murky focus
There is good therapy
And good poetry.
An obscure life,
A likelihood of errors
And metaphors captured;
Telling a tale.

In this tenacious crusade
We are all vagrants

So, take my hand

Because I Miss Fireflies (poem)

Because I Miss Fireflies

If I had a meadow
I would capture your bioluminescence
In glass Ball jars
And poke the galvanized lid
Full of air holes
Watching your green-glow pulsations
Through the cursive wrinkles
And creating hushed magic
For my pillow edge

Once Floral (poem)

Once Floral

I see it
As excavating a past life
Through obscure charcoal passages
And a primeval garden gate opens
Filled with golden light
Open armed, I meet my pure self
We embrace again
Here all along

Rookery (poem)

Rookery

Perhaps in a rookery
She built upon
Twigs of contrasts
Beckoning with a beak
And then regurgitating worms
And bug parts
Like a red carpet
Of deception
So she can
Wing the skies
In search of more carrion
To satisfy her hollow gut

On Film (poem)

On Film

Without a clarity compass
She misguides senses
Hanging her negatives in frames
Through the corridors

But my exposure is beyond
And I progress right through

Sound Meditation (poem)

Sound Meditation

In hidden dark places
Learning the language of crickets
Justly harmonized
And keeping count
Of fiddles, I digress
For in the crevices
Dust sleeps
With unsung stridulations

Variable Winds Aloft (poem)

Variable Winds Aloft

This evening’s sky
Flowing like coppery organza
Sands obscuring her face
With wind and time
And pleasant wrinkles
At the corners of her mouth

Untrained (poem)

Untrained

Nearly derailed by blurred transparency
And slanted training
Versed alone in backtracking
I precisely breathe through distances
My new path revealed
As straightforward and steeled
Carving the tunnels
Because I’m the engineer
On this faraway train

Ciphering (poem)

Ciphering

This quiet self
Clinging on a quirky word
Or glance aslant
Processing the unfamiliar
Like a pile of puzzle pieces

Constrictory (poem)

Constrictory

Contemplating coiling vines
And how long they choke growth
Before they die off
And become nothing
But fertilizer
For strong roots

Handled (poem)

Handled

A matter of cogs
And escapements
Clicking in place

A dreamy dream
A nightly nightmare
A cosmic and timely awakening

Gun hands meet hour hands
In the hall of clocks
At high noon

A Survey (poem)

A Survey

Something about strands and sentinels
Perfectly in place
A natural world
Of proportions unknown
And we’re climbing upward
To see the view

Height and Width (poem)

Height and Width

It was the following year
Or so
When a great distance
Crevassed our mountain
And things
Haven’t been right since

Be genuine, be granite
Or don’t be at all

Clarity (poem)

Clarity

As the dawn breaks
My understanding is grafted

Branches and blossoms
You’ll never see
Together

Surface Tension (poem)

Surface Tension

Mesmerized by mimicry
You’re transfixed in that pond
Those gold and white rippled mirrors
Reassuring
When no one else
Notices your crown

A Menace (poem)

A Menace

Furry and cute
We’re both animals
With claws
And teeth
And piles of bones

Yet I believe,
My pile could be bigger

Rearview Illusions (poem)

Rearview Illusions

Driving that highway
Staring at dusty yesterdays
In the rearview
He relived use-to-be’s
Present moments squandered
As those blue hour stars
Sparkled in the windshield
Begging to be appreciated
And counted
