Dark Fields (poem)

Dark Fields

Johnnycakes on the griddle
Humming a sizzle
As through the threshold
And down the lane
Light wicks away
Sun-warmed frost
Leaving the mourning of autumn
Heavy with stunted days
And necks humbly bent
In those blackened fields
