Unpraised Man (poem)

 Unpraised Man

About your quest to know a man
Consider all his motives
To those souls seeking innocence
Hear this undoing of his votives

A story-teller spins a yarn
Manipulation weave and weft
Collecting pieces here and there
The camouflage akin to theft

Then charisma charms the weak
Alas, deceit unfolds
Telling tales of angelic men
Toting their plates of gold

A magic rock will do the trick
Placed in a darkened hat
Hiding smirks with whispered words
“Scribe my prophecies!” he spat

Then gatherings were like a drug
Fueling the widened fire
As power clasped the hand of wealth
Call down the heavenly choir

An angel with a flaming sword
Would most surely do him harm
Lest the virgins would not submit
To him and all his charms

As glyphs were sold and glyphs were bought
A broad kingdom was at stake
Thus the deceiver was deceived
With finesse to expose a fake

Downtrodden lead throughout the land
Severing brains from hearts
Blistered hands mere busywork
Childlike burdens of their carts

Until at last the press was set
To unravel all perversions
For the thinking mind to think
And question all conversions

And so dethroned he sat in jail
The stolen tokens just a farce
A mob rose up, the man fell down
Founding members all so sparse

Until regrouped they soldiered on
The deception born again
So ask yourself dear followers
Whose belief you would “Amen”
