Ambsace (Poem)

Ambsace

Life’s journey
These symbolic lessons
Circle and fold back
To open and divide
Quests for knowledge
And turning points
Hinterlands to inner peace
Always within sight

Nothing Personal (Poem)

Nothing Personal

Devoid of humor
Another Vulcan
In a deadpan

We shared
A stiff kiss
Foretelling
Your kiss of death

Shining Thoughts (Poem)

Shining Thoughts

Epiphanies
Out of date
Turned
State of the art

Edisonesque
Aureately spiral
Labyrinths
Yet to discover

Another Season (Poem)

Another Season

Things are sizzling
Waking up in seventy degrees
Watching earth steaming up and out
A hazy shade of green

All the while
I think back to January's chill
When days were hoary
And I could rest my weary head
On the chest of Jack Frost.

Wizardry Uncloaked (Poem)

Wizardry Uncloaked

Potion brewed and corked by wizard
Eye of newt and tongue of lizard
Bottles aplenty in dark ferment
Awaiting spell and wry consent

Mantic vision to chart a course
Tip of staff, a touch, a source
A swirl of smoke quick as silver
Garden ritual, herbs to pilfer

Scrying future in ball of glass
Through haze-filled orb his eyes do pass
Questing alchemy cooked in books
Foretelling ends right as rooks

Repeating chant of single word
Turmoil steeped and energy stirred
Upswing of wand in final breath
Enchanting all, til death, til death

The Day We Met (Poem)

The Day We Met

Somehow
That day
For the first time
In my life
I expected nothing
I wasn’t clinging
To a dream
Or a star
Or the world
On a shiny platter
But there it was
In the bottom
Of that gift bag
A handsel
A token of our love
And there you were
Embracing my heart
Heroically
In your hands.

Body and Soul (Poem)

Body and Soul

Atlas flaunts
Somatic zenith

Psyche communicates
Cerebral fullness

Body and soul
A package deal.

Mushroom Blush (Poem)

Mushroom Blush

Lurking in bottommost forest depths
Amongst viridescent moss
I see your cousins,
Iridescent tops glistening
Catching slivers of sunrays

Then in my ambling
I see your erubescent cap
Sprouting from dead leaves
A flirtaceous dash of color
As nature answers

Strategic Vows (Poem)

Strategic Vows

Friendly allies

Eventually-
Weaknesses examined
Breached

Flanking maneuvers
In surprise attacks
Drawing incessant lines

Angry regimental law
Rejecting détente
In cross-armed defiance

Hostile enemies

New Moon (Poem)

New Moon

New moon
Seeking light
Seeking a place
Wandering desolate
Discerning dark dearth
On the fringes
Of earth

A Real Shoo-in (Poem)

A Real Shoo-in

With his old tennis shoe
Mired in the muck
Wriggling created
An ugly zugzwang

The one option
Presented itself
As a brief playful transaction
Between our young eyes

Slight movement
Left or right
Caused the suction
To burp out a deep groan
And then a long stretchy
Sluuuuuuuuurp

Clean foot extracted
Our smiles
Lulled into temporary relief
Knowing the fate
Of his father’s wrath
As we skedaddled
Through fields of cut hay
Toward home

Door-to-Door Sales (Poem)

Door-to-door Sales

Eyes crazed and hollow
And with spittle
Forming at the corner
Of his mouth
He shouted his Bible-thumping sermon
Through my window

I stared blankly
Deer in headlight apprehensive
As if making a move
Would cause
His self-perceived canonical flakiness
To claw its way
Through glass
And fling me down to hell

Twisted Sister (Poem)

Twisted Sister

Spinning here
Spinning there
Heads whipped round
With twisted flare

Looking ‘round
For that sound
Where that torque
Is heaven bound

Hanging There (Poem)

Hanging There

Taken aback
Stomach lurches
Unsure

Compelled to look again
To confirm horrors
Disbelief

Hanging there
Bloated, yet deflated
Sorrowful

Seeking signs of life
Abject fatality
Unreasonable

Head bowed
Apparition exposed
Solace in realizations

Grandmother's Farmstead (Poem)

Grandmother’s Farmstead

Poetic, isn’t it?
Bushels divided
Into rhyming sequence
Of color
As wagons roll
Journeying into town
In sweet metre
Exchanging tender
For nutriment
In the marketplace

And now-
The passage of generations
Sharing usufruct
Where raspberries ripened
And corn tassels
Waved their hellos and goodbyes

Give Her Potato Salad! (Poem)

Give her Potato Salad!

I type stuff
For a living
Well, medical stuff
Records to be exact
You know,
Your personal information
That goes in the charts

I type the office notes
I type nursing home notes too
Sometimes I laugh
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes I shake my head
And sometimes
I know what tests
The doctor will order
Before he gets to that part
That makes me feel pretty smart

But one little old lady
In one of the nursing homes
Only asks for potato salad
She screams that she wants
POTATO SALAD!

I find that amusing and sad
At the same time
But damn,
That lady has gumption.

Wavering (Poem)

Wavering

On some days

The view from up here

Is approachable.

I am able

To assay with similar questions;

Seeking the runoff,

Finding solutions,

And flowing on downstream

To distribute answers.

On other days

The view from up  here

Is unapproachable.

I simply want to jump

Not to my death or injury,

But to simple answers.

No giving or taking

No division of knowledge

Accountable for my guilt

On other days still

The view from up here

Is irresponsible.

I want to be amused

Throwing sticks and stones

Creating a little havoc

Watching the splash

And resultant

Lackadaisical drift.

On all these days

I have found

I am a wave in motion.

One Trig Pony (Poem)

One Trig Pony

Sharp-dressed men are all around
Puttin on the ritz
Three-pieced as they stroll downtown
Amongst the filthy rich

Lifting a sleeve, checking the time
To three-martini lunch
Middling trig encounters prime
Numbers left to crunch

Skylark (Poem)

Skylark

Your brown wings carry you

Soaring in heights of blue

Yet I still hear your sweet song

And it carries me along

Oh, I’m so far away

I wish that I could stay

Studying your daily flight

To be always in my sight

So lingering I’ll smile

Across these many miles

As in a childlike spring

“Alouette” to sing

To my friend in feathers

Resting there in heathers

Your song will ever seem

A sweet sound in this dream

Refinery (Poem)

Refinery

Seeing the abyss as deep and wide
Tumultuous thoughts whirl inside
Clawing for freedom on falling rock
Grasping for keys that might unlock

Cleanse this dark soul and make it pure
Embracing patterns  right and sure
In finding peace I’ll sublimate
And with healing balm ameliorate

Girl Talk (Poem)

Girl Talk

Sometimes in the comprehension
Of being there now
Of having been there then

On being female
And sharing those
“Yes, I know” moments

There is a hushed
Patois
Reserved only for us

For Caylee (Poem)

For Caylee

I understand justice

And reasonable doubt

But this senseless death

Coupled with the resultant verdict

Has left me

Wordless

Hopeless

Stunned into

A futilitarian sulk

If only whispers-

Could swell to a shout.

All Built Up (Poem)

All Built Up

Trowel in hand
You mortar it thick
Building blockades
Stonewalling
To quell your desire

Your undoing-
My unharnessed feminine wiles
Swinging
Like a wrecking ball
Through a fortress

Stitched Up (Poem)

Stitched Up

I have heard all your lines
Saw them
As woven words
Used threads
And nothing but
My junk aporia
Grasped
As paltry pocket lint
To offer back

And you,
A weak essay on guilt
Step up again
Stitching needles in hand
With mere hems and haws
Fabricating half-truths

Girl Style (Poem)

Girl Style

Thinking back on these things
At the point
Of suffrage
Beyond wearing the pants
Is a long way to go
And incomprehensible

To have a voice
To be heard
To gather all of these
Is
Another salute to freedom-
Girl style.

I've Seen These Places (Poem)

I've Seen These Places

I've seen these places
When the sun goes down
And wanting
When the strings of bulbs
Are lit
And the mixed drinks
Spill out into the night
To drink some Jack,
Feel the bedlam swirl inside,
And dance on tables.

Slipping Through (Poem)

Slipping Through

Collapsing

Falling back

I spin by that dream

Trying to hold

Deciduous light

Slipping through my fingers.

Like your face in my hands

And that kiss.
