Thoughtful Foreboding (poem)
Thoughtful Foreboding
After the abuse
In many forms
For 40 years
Why, oh, why
Would I want to experience
Your new nightmares
From the safety
Of my new dreams?

This Crazy Vision of Mine (poem)
This Crazy Vision of Mine
“Here, try these” she said
As she handed me
Her rose-colored prescription glasses.
“No, thanks” I said
“Every time I wear someone else’s
My eyes hurt”.

Pilot's License (poem)
Pilot’s License
Pencils aligned
Desk straightened
Time for another dark memory
To fold the creases in my brain
And take flight
On a paper airplane

Speak Easily (poem)
Speak Easily
As she spoke in Urban Dictionary dialect
Our meandering discourse ensued
Pingponging verbiage
Between tribes and generations
Frustration
Nearly slamming the door
When a loving kindness meditation
Inspires a different communication
And I see
What she calls rap
I call poetry.

Feeling Dotty (poem)
Feeling Dotty
Understanding now
I see Grandma’s thing
Was all about not giving a shit
Those cozy mixed-up patterns
Of polyester variations
Could be perceived as zany
And wrong
Like an Oreo at a proper English tea
Oh, I am so dunking that kooky
Right now.

I Am Still (poem)
I Am Still
A fallen strand of hair
Plucked by a bird
To nest tiny eggs,
Or merely
My excited exhalations
Coming to rest
In canyon depths.
These personal tiny ingredients
Separated from my being
Are everywhere I’ve been
Somersaulting around the globe,
On oceans waves,
On mountaintops,
In desert sands,
I am still
Everywhere.

Scrappy (poem)
Scrappy
Metaphorically
I aspire to the tomcat
Snipping off kitty tails
Throughout the back alleys
Before they steal my fish bones
Meow!
