Sheer (poem)

Sheer

We fused thoughts
Gauzy, yet unveiled
Musing on biorhythms
And edges
Of convexing mirrors
In their sway
Here and there
Between worlds

First Snow in the City (poem)

First Snow in the City

Below sun-peeking white cloud tendrils,
The battle cry of an icy wind
Charges unrelentless through the streets
Besieging dwellings of the rank and file
Standing belligerent
Against the stark reality of gray--
Collecting the pummeling snow
In their eaves and shutters.
Frosty frigidity
Dusty and clinging;
These impenetrable fortresses of coziness
Unyielding
To the wrathful assault
Of first snow in the city

It's All Ephemeral (poem)

It’s All Ephemeral

At the worlds largest antique store
I found Jayne, the poetess,
Inside the thin cardboard
Record album cover.
Her words
On typed paper
Celebrating snowflakes
From twenty years ago

She won awards, was published.

Something tugs inside
And I am unable
To throw Jayne away

So, she stays in my collection
Of moldering papers,
The turntable spins and sputters
Reminding me
It’s all ephemeral.

Release (poem)

Release

Blue skies rent
I reached inside the sternum
And pulled her free
Just a wisp
On the wind
With more to imagine
Breathing into her sails
On her voyage
Across a wide open world

Never Roses (poem)

Never Roses

Thorns stitched
Again and again
Edges defined in purpose
Blindly seeing
Her own garden
Devoid of roses

Alban Arthan (poem)

Alban Arthan

Cold and bleak
These long winter days
When sunlight dips and wanes
Ancestral strength
Counted on branches
While mistletoe clusters adorn
Awaiting the golden sickle

Tart (poem)

Tart

Supermoon mystique
Colluding and colliding
It’s said
You’re not really hungry
Unless an apple sounds good
So I grasp within my orbit
Yank hard
And take a sour bite
Chewing the juice
Until my jowls spasm

Dig Deep (poem)

Dig Deep

Almost listless
I dared to crawl again
Clawing the earth
Dirtying fingernails
A single seed burrowed
In fertile gray matter
By faith composted
I breathed a new genesis

Daybreak (poem)

Daybreak

Square room blackness
When around 6-ish
Above the window
A sliver of dim light appears
Highway traffic whirs
Dogs are roused
The sliver widens
And over sensitization begins
Inside my blanket fortress

Honor (poem)

Honor

During the applause
I scream,
I did that once
Or twice
Or thrice!
And no souls noticed
My glory
So I bow to my crumbling
Like the leaf,
Brushed away.

Hibernation (poem)

Hibernation

Solemn and sodden
She pulled her white blanket
To her neck, nodded off
And went dormant
Until spring

Jack Frost's Pen (poem)

Jack Frost’s Pen

Night-before snow twirlings
Gathered and etched with that frosty nib
An ephemeral fusion with sunlight
Rime of lyrics iridescently inked
A meditative fragile filigree
Dissolved in degrees

Powdered (poem)

Powdered

Sifting through surplus sugar
My mind makes Christmas concoctions
Drifts of snow
Against faded clapboard
White on white
White on gingerbread
Views of snowy hills
Through wrinkled window glass
And it’s home sweet home

Bah (poem)

Bah

Winter white blank page
Dimmed, if not dead, holiday lights
Senses attacked
By burnt-crumb flatus from the toaster
Feeling not much of a poetess
In fat plaid black with metallic strands
Old celery green fleece
And pillow flattened hair
On just one side
And all I see
Are these mirrored kohl circles
Begging for festive words

Fudge Espresso Brownies (poem)

Fudge Espresso Brownies

When the chocolate goes down
There’s wildness in the house
Dancing galore
Spilled beverage
Times Square kind of revelry
Right in my own kitchen

Illumination (poem)

Illumination

Chiming in
No one heard
Sometimes
They heard
And rolled their eyes

When I realized
My own style is light
And not sound

Gray to Yellow (poem)

Gray to Yellow

I asked for a fraction
Just a millisecond,
Using those magic words,
Pixels capturing
The rain and your boot;
A monochrome so long ago.
Now all those fractions in between
Lemons squeezed this morning,
Making hair concoctions
For my curls you pulled out
Last night in that frenzy.

Periodical (poem)

Periodical

The parchment
Where words were written
Photos meant forever
And calendars removed from their nails
And replaced again and again,
Through the years
Eventual fragments
Peeled, stripped,
Abandoned to the wind

Pathways (poem)

Pathways

One foot on black
One foot on white
An edgy balance
To let go and leap
Diving headlong
Into gray matter
Lines crossed and webbed
Along those neurons
A net of science
To rediscover
And be

Classic (poem)

Classic

I may be a deviant,
Apostate, bohemian
But I have Morgenstimmung
For breakfast
And Eine kleine nachtmusik
For dinner
And it is a most delicious life

Travel (poem)

Travel

When I go
About my way
I’ll pack my bags
In that suitcase
With the stickers from foreign places
And never look back

Maybe you’ll miss me,
Maybe you won’t
